The Steps You Need to Take When You Break a Dental Crown

Posted .

If you have a broken dental crown in Morton Grove, Illinois, our Dolnick and Associates team is happy to give you the tips you need to improve the situation! There are three things we want you to do once the crown has fallen out of your mouth, and those three things are:

Call your dentist
The first thing you need to do is call our office and schedule an appointment with your dentist. The sooner you can come in for an appointment, the better because your dentist is the only one who can completely fix the problem. Please remember to bring the crown with you when you come in for your appointment.

Put the crown back in place
If possible, put the crown in place using over-the-counter dental cement or a piece of sugar-free gum. All you need to do is fill the center of the crown with the cement or gum and then place the crown back over the tooth. Please do not use super glue. If you can’t seem to get the crown back into place, keep it in a safe place where it won’t get lost or broken.

Take over-the-counter pain medications
If the broken crown is causing you pain, please take over-the-counter pain medication as needed. This should help you feel comfortable until you come into our office.

If you have any questions or if you would like additional tips, please feel free to call 847-299-3365 and talk to Dr. Ira J. Dolnick or a member of our dental team. We are happy to give you all of the information you need to succeed. All you need to do is contact our office during operating hours!
